What I have found is that most people in the network marketing space WANT to grow a team. But their fear of becoming a leader and having to help other people often holds them back from putting the opportunity out there or actually stepping into their own power as a leader as their team grows.
Sometimes we have this fear of leadership that holds us back from really owning our power, really showing up and speaking boldly about what we have to offer people.
I’ve been seeing so many of you getting excited about talking about your business and wanting to grow your team, but I’ve also been seeing where once you get there, once you are starting to actually build and grow this team, there is a little bit of fear.
There is a little bit of imposter syndrome. Feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing, feeling like you don’t have what it takes. And so I just wanted to hop on and kind of sprinkle some confidence into you on your leadership. What that can look like, what that should look like and how you can start to feel more confident about yourself as a leader, as you are building and growing your team.
So I think what happens when people start to build and grow teams in their businesses, when you start to have ladies come join you in this business. You start to look at other leaders, which is awesome to get inspiration from them, but what’s not so awesome is when you start to look at other leaders, people who are also building and growing teams, people who are maybe having the success that you desire in their businesses, and you start to compare yourself to these other women.
So you look at Tiffany Wynn and you start to compare yourself to Tiffany Wynn and how I run my team, how I show up in my business, the things that I do as a leader. And you start to feel like either:
A. No way I’ll be able to do all of that.
B. I’m not good at those same things that she’s good at.
C. I don’t know how to do those things.
And so you start to feel this fear behind leadership. And one of two things happen. Either A, you start to fear even talking about the business. period. Because you are scared of what will happen if someone actually says, yes, I want to join your team.
And so you stop even sharing about the business. You don’t talk about the possibility of people joining your team. You don’t put it out there in the open about what this business is doing for you. You don’t ever send out invites to people about what this business is doing. You don’t post about it. You don’t share about it.
You keep this business opportunity under lock and key out of either conscious awareness that you are nervous about becoming a leader, or sometimes it is even subconscious. Sometimes you don’t even realize that the reason you’re not talking about the business opportunity is because you are afraid of what will happen when someone actually joins your team.
Sometimes it’s subconscious. Sometimes it’s this little voice in the back of your head that you don’t even realize is sabotaging the potential success of your business. You are doing it subconsciously, you’re not even realizing that that is the reason that you aren’t showing up and talking about this business.
So that’s one thing that can happen. The other thing that can happen is maybe you do push through that fear, right? So sometimes you force yourself. And you guys know, I do not like that word “force”, but you force yourself into talking about the business, right? So you push yourself, you force yourself and you’re like, I’m gonna do this post. I’m gonna send this message. I’m just gonna talk about it.
But because there is this energy of fear and scarcity and you’re not feeling the faith or the belief behind it, then what do you get? crickets. Nobody replies nobody comments on the post. You don’t get any engagement. And so then guess what that does to your psyche.
You start to tell yourself, “see, I knew it. Nobody wants to join my team. Nobody wants to do this with me. I’m not gonna be a good leader.” but really, it’s not that nobody wants to do this with you. It’s that the energy that you have and that message and that post and that IG story and whatever it is, you are literally saying “I don’t want you to join my team.”
When people are reading that, people can feel the energy behind the post that you are making. And if you have this subconscious fear and they can feel the force, they can feel the pressure. They can feel the push behind the message, the post, the story, whatever it is.
You’re going to repel people from wanting to actually do this. You’re gonna repel people from wanting to actually respond to what you are putting out there, because there is this energy of force, fear, pressure, and push in the message that you are sending. Okay. So what’s the next thing that can happen.
The other thing that can happen is say you get the message out there with force, with push, with pressure and say, there is someone that just so happens to still want to join you. What do you immediately do?
You PANIC. “Oh my gosh, someone’s interested. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how to do this.” So you start to go off the deep end of not knowing what you are supposed to be saying to them, not knowing what to do, and you just create this snowball effect of fear.
So there is just this channeling of fear throughout the whole process. You get them signed up. Because sometimes you can’t say the wrong thing to the right person, if someone’s going to want to sign up, you can say the craziest thing to them. And if they’ve already made it up in their head that they want to sign up, then they are going to sign up.
Tiffany Wynn was going to sign up, regardless of what someone said to me. I already had it in my head that I was going to sign up. So sometimes there’s just people that come along and they just already know. And so you get the person on your team, praise the Lord. Hallelujah. You’re like, yay. I got a new stylist on my team. I’m so excited, but guess what is happening still? You still don’t have the belief in yourself as a leader. And so you are going to self sabotage. You are going to self sabotage yourself in them, out of the potential that this business could be for both you and them, because there is this fear, this scarcity mindset of, “I am not going to be a good leader. I don’t know how to help these people. I don’t know what I’m doing.”
And you’re telling yourself all of these things. But here’s the thing.
There’s nothing scary about becoming a leader. There is nothing scary about growing your team and having people join you in this opportunity. This opportunity is so amazing. And there are so many women who need this opportunity. There are so many women who need to be in this community. and your fear and your lack of belief in yourself is holding other people back from having the opportunity to step into this.
So let me tell you how you can change your mindset around leadership and how you can change the way you think about yourself as a leader. Start to build the belief in yourself as a leader and start to build a massive, amazing team that you feel so confident in leading that you feel so confident in supporting.
Here is the thing that I want you to think about. When it comes to leadership, most people start to think that you have this responsibility to help other people succeed. And so we put this pressure on ourselves that it is up to us in order to make those people have results, and to feel like we are doing enough for them.
I want you to cancel that mindset right now. Wherever you got that mindset. I know mine came from other MLMs and this belief that I had to be this kind of person in order to be a good leader. And I had to do these kinds of things in order to be a good leader. Cancel the mindset that other people’s success and results are on your shoulders, because it is absolutely not.
Your job as a sponsor, because that’s what you are. You just sponsored this person to be successful. I don’t know a lot about AA. I’ve never been to an AA meeting or seen what that is except for on TV, but from the knowledge that I do have, when you get a sponsor in AA, That person is just there as a support person, right?
They are just there to support you, cheer you on, and be there when you are having a tough time, right. Be there for you, give you the resources that you need to get to where you want to go, right? What is that person not going to do? Well, they cannot make you stop abusing whatever substance it is that you are using.
They cannot make you do that, in the same way that us as leaders, when you start to build and grow a team, you cannot make anyone do anything. That is on them, right? You give them the tools and the resources you are there to just cheer them on, support them and give them the little hoorah that they need.
So when you take that mindset, it frees you from feeling like you are the end, all be all for that person, because you are not. Guess what, Tiffany Wynn was going to be successful, regardless. I didn’t need an upline to give me a handbook or anything.
When I came in all of these amazing resources that you guys have and see, there were none. There were no resources to help us get our businesses started. So I was going to do this with, or without the resources and the support. I was going to do this regardless.
So if you feel like you have to give people certain amounts of things and do things a certain way in order for people to be successful. Cancel that mindset right now because you don’t. You just get to be you, you just get to be who you are and love on them in whatever way that works for you.
There are leaders in this company that look completely different in the way that we do leadership. the way that you see me lead is because this is the way that I feel the most confident as a leader. Doing this kind of stuff is my gift zone, leading trainings, coming to speak to you guys about this kind of stuff, creating resources for you guys. That is my strength. And that is the lane that I stay in.
If this is not your strength, you don’t have to be the leader that shows up and does this kind of stuff. You don’t have to be the leader that makes the resources. When you become a leader, you just get to shine in the way that you shine. You just get to be you and show up in the way that is best and makes the most sense and feels the best and that you are most confident in for you.
You don’t have to mimic. You don’t have to look like. You don’t have to do the same things that you see from any other leader in this business, in this company, on this team. You don’t have to do things the way that you see anyone else doing them. You have the permission to go lead the way that works, that feels best, and the way that you are most confident in as a leader.
There are millions of amazing singers in this world. But no two singers sound exactly the same. No two singers have the same voice. If you listen to Adele, you will hear that. And you will be like, oh my gosh, that is Adele. But when you listen to Mariah Carey, you will hear that. And you’ll be like, oh my gosh, that is Mariah Carey.
Totally different voices, both beautiful, amazing singers. They do things so differently, but the end result, they both have amazing music that people love to listen to. Our leadership is the same. You can do and sound differently than another leader.
You can do things, you can perform, you can sing, your voice, your whatever can be different from another leader, but both of you have amazing results. Both of you have the ability to do great things. When we come together, there is this beautiful harmony. What is more precious and beautiful than hearing a harmony of multiple singers, singing their voice, not trying to mimic someone else’s voice. Mariah Carey doesn’t try to sound like Adele because that is not the way that her voice works.
That is not the gift in the sound that God gave. God gave her her voice. She does not need to go and try to sound like Adele in order to be adored and have amazing results and music. She gets to just focus on sounding like Mariah Carey, which is enough.
But imagine if Mariah Carey and Adele came together to do a duet. And then you bring in Beyonce and you bring in Ariana Grande and you bring in all of these beautiful voices that sound so different, but you put them together and you make this harmony. Chills, goosebumps! That is us in our businesses. We each have our own unique, beautiful voices that God has given specifically to us.
We should be belting out our own unique sounds into our businesses. You as a leader should be belting out whatever unique sound, which is AKA your gift and talent, right? So you should be belting out, pouring out your unique gift and talent into your team, into your business. But then we come together and we all bring our beautiful voices together and we create one massive choir, one beautiful harmony.
And that is how this business should run. You should not be trying to be Tiffany and or whoever else these other amazing leaders are. Can you look at them and find inspiration and say, “Wow, I really like how she does this. That is something I would love to.” Absolutely. But should you try to mimic and become someone else? No, because guess what? The way that Tiffany Wynn leads trainings is the way that Tiffany Wynn leads trainings, because this is what God has given to me to be able to do. You are never going to lead a training the way that I do. Can you lead a training the way that you lead a training? Yes, absolutely.
Does that mean that one of us is going to be better than the other? No, it will just look different, right? And there is nothing wrong with different because every single woman on this team is going to need to hear different things in different ways.
How many of you are mamas and you tell your kids something 15 times, and then they hear it from someone else once and they get it. People need to hear things in different ways. People need to be led in different ways. Your leadership is going to lead someone the way that they need to be led.
If we all try to lead like each other, someone is going to get lost because that is not the way that they understand how to be led. That is not the way that they’re going to understand the directions. The way that our businesses should be run is by us diving fully in to what our gifts and talents are, utilizing those to build and grow our team as leaders.
Not focusing on what anyone else is doing. Just leading our teams, the way that we lead our teams and feeling comfortable and confident that that is enough. And then when you need someone else to step in, in a way that you are not gifted. If you are not the teacher trainer, coach, fine, but guess what? You can collaborate with someone who is to give your team whatever it needs.
That really right there is all you need. Everything else should come from here. Everything else, you need to be an amazing, incredible, awesome leader who is going to build a massive business that makes a massive impact and a massive income it comes from in here.
You don’t need any of this to be an amazing leader. Everything else is just vanity, being a good leader is what’s in here. Nobody can replicate what is coming from in here as a leader. It doesn’t matter what tools and resources and skills that someone else has as a leader.
And that is what you should focus on giving to your team as a leader. Next step is just to pour this into them. That is what is going to make you a good leader. And when you know that, that should give you the confidence to go spread this message of what this opportunity is to the world, because you know that you already have everything you need inside of you to be a good leader.
You don’t need to be the best speaker. You don’t need to be the best nurturer. You don’t need to be the best this, the best that, the best whatever. You just need what’s in here. Give that to your people. And that will be enough. So that is the goal with these different trainings is to build you up. And as you’re building you up, you’re going to be building your confidence up.
As you build your confidence up, you’re going to be able to build an amazing rockstar team that is done your way, that you feel amazing about that you can support and lead and then you just reach down, and you bring everyone else up with you. That’s the way that this should look.
You take one step up, you build yourself up. Then you reach down and you grab someone and you bring them with you. You take another step up, you build up, you get stronger, you stand up taller, you reach down and grab someone and bring them up with you.
That’s how this business should be. All right. So I hope that this was helpful. Ladies, if it was share this with your teams, I’m so excited to see all of you go out there and lead like the rock stars that you are lead with your personal gifts and talents focused on you and what you have to offer the world because you are the only you out there only you can do.
This business, the way that you are going to do this business, and it will be so much more beautiful of a place when we are each confident in what we have to offer and not looking at what everyone else is doing, but focused on our own lane.
