“Building relationships feels fake to me. I don’t like it and that’s why I stopped working my business.”
This is such a common theme in the social selling space. You’re taught to “build relationships” but those relationships are only for the sake of hoping it will turn in to a sell or team member. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can grow your business in a really genuine and authentic way. That’s why I teach to have another platform where you focus on growing. This will bring people to you vs you going out there and intentionally trying to create these “fake” relationships with people.
Focus on what your growth platform is going to be. How are you planning on growing your network? Cold market platform – having a podcast, youtube, blog, etc. where people can find you on the web. Don’t look at people as numbers, but think if it’s someone you can provide value to whether they buy from you or not. Are the things you share beneficial to your community? If you look at it from that angle, it no longer feels icky to bring them into your space. Because then you know they are actually going to benefit from you/your posts. You’re adding value to them.
It’s no longer about what you’re selling, it’s about what you offer to other people.
Personally, I only reach out to people if some kind of interest has been sparked. Are they commenting, liking, viewing my posts? Are they engaging with me some kind of way on a regular basis? If so, then that to me is a green light. They have some kind of interest whether it’s about me or my products. I don’t know which one yet, so that’s why I reach out.
I say something like: “Hey! Thank you for all the love you show me on my posts. I’m not sure if you’re interested in ___ but I just wanted to reach out so I can send more info if you’re interested. If not, totally fine! Just wanted to let you know I’m so grateful for you.”
THAT opens up the door, and you starting conversation with them that feels authentic will not freak them out.
Focus on creating content that’s going to be valuable and will get people wanting to engage with you.
Most of the time things can get so overwhelming that we end up just not doing anything at all. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Who said you have to post 3x a day to keep your community engaged? If you can just do one video a week, that’s absolutely okay.
If you’re only adding one video a week to your instagram or youtube and it’s a really impactful video, that’s so much better than making 50 posts on Facebook that are meaningless. That one powerful piece of content is better than 50 pieces of content that are just blah. Bring the fire with that small amount that you can manage to do vs doing a bunch of stuff just for the sake of it.
I know a lot of social media gurus be like “you have to post reels everyday so you can gain more followers!” Okay well, growth is great but is that growth actually going to translate into success in my business? There’s no guarantee that if I get more followers, I’m also going to increase my income. I know people with a ton of followers but their followers couldn’t care less about what they’re selling/offering. But there are people who don’t have that many followers who bring their followers powerful content and that small group of people will eat up everything that person shares because it’s bringing value.
We’re always after quantity – more likes, followers, posts… But the quantity is not going to bring the impact. And the impact is what’s going to bring the income. The impact comes from quality. The quality that you’re offering people. If you’re just focused on the numbers, you’re not going to see results in your bank account. When people feel like they’re being nurtured in your space, they’ll want to show up and buy what you’re offering.
Remember, everything doesn’t have to be perfect right now. Clarity in your business comes through action. You’re going to get clearer on things as you show up and take action.
