This is something I wish I had when I started my business. I wish I had some kind of mindset shifts around what recruiting really is. How I could show up and attract people in a simple way.
When it comes to recruiting, it’s not exactly what you’re doing but how you’re doing it. A lot of people don’t think of the how, but only the what. One of the most common questions I always get is the what: “what are you doing to recruit so many people?!” The thing is, I can show you exactly what I did, but you’re not going to get the same results. It’s not what I did, but how I did it. How you’re showing up, the energy and mindset you’re putting into your business – that’s what makes the difference.
All of the negative energy you’re feeling when you think of recruiting – nervous, anxious, overwhelmed, doubtful etc. is because you’re making it about you. Recruiting is NOT about you, it’s about the other person. It’s about the gift you’re offering to someone else. It’s not about what you will get out of recruiting someone, but what they will get.
Think of it this way: your business opportunity is a gift you’re giving to someone else. You wouldn’t be here if your business hadn’t been a blessing for you. I’m sure it has gifted you a lot of other things aside from money – the community, support group, friends, purpose, etc. So if it has been such a positive thing for you, why wouldn’t you want to share it with others? When you talk about your business opportunity, you should feel excited because you’re about to give a huge gift to someone that will change their lives. Remove yourself from the equation, whether they say yes or no, don’t take it personally. It’s never about you, it’s about the gift, the opportunity you’re offering. When you think about recruiting like that, it totally shifts your mindset. Now, you’ll feel excited, pumped up, energetic when talking about it because you know it will be a blessing to someone else.
How would you feel if someone gave you a gift but they’re like: “I got you a gift but I don’t know if you’ll like it. I don’t know if it’s your size. It’s okay if you don’t though. I’ll just change it into something else.” Wouldn’t that feel SO WEIRD?! Like uhhh, I would rather just NOT get the gift. So if you’re recruiting someone and you’re thinking: “I don’t know if they’ll like this opportunity. I don’t know if they’ll make money out of this. What if I’m not a good leader?” That’s the EXACT energy you’re giving off. So they too will feel awkward like, do I really wanna join her team?! BUT if you showed up with CONFIDENCE, that will change how they feel towards you. When you’re excited to talk about your biz, they too will feel excited to join.
When you’re selling, you’re not selling yourself to these people. I’m not selling Tiffany Wynn to others, I’m selling an opportunity that will change their lives. It has never been about YOU. It’s not about what you think of yourself or what you think others think of you. It’s about what you’re GIVING them. When you’re confident in sharing about your business, the other person is going to receive it with confidence. Now, it’s not just sharing the opportunity anymore. It’s you selling them an opportunity that you believe will somehow fill in a gap in their lives.
People are simply looking to fill in a gap in a specific area in their lives.
Maybe they have a gap in their finances, personal lives, family, friends, etc. If you BELIEVE that your business can help others fill their gaps in different aspects of their lives, then share THAT. THAT’S what you show up and share.
1.Straight to the point aka “breadcrumbs”
The posts that are short, simple, straight to the point. Short posts but enough to pique their interest. I like to call this the breadcrumbs because it’s like leaving little breadcrumbs that make people interested or at least enough to catch their attention.
Most people feel like when you talk about the business, you have to be talking about it. But NO. You can share some awesome things that are happening in your life because of your business without actually talking about it. You can share about how good it feels to not have to wait until payday to go grocery shopping. Or not having to ask your husband for money to get your nails done. Your posts have to be relatable to the average person. If you’re only sharing about your vacations and private planes then others wouldn’t be able to relate. Show them how they can be a part of it too.
2. Longer, emotional posts
These are the posts that hit the heartstrings. The kind of posts that will make people feel something. Tell your story. Tell them how you didn’t have friends before, maybe you were the outcast or the loner, but now you have the best friends. Your business could fill in that gap for some people. So think of all the different gaps that a person could be having that your business opportunity could fill in.
3. Asking people to join
Once or twice a week, ask people to join. Tie it with something that will make them take action. For example, tell them you’ll have a biz call that they can join, or a masterclass they can take part in. And if they want to join, now is the time to sign up.
Don’t do the normal posts like “It’s only xx$ to join us! These are our perks and benefits!” These aren’t the things that get people to join. People don’t go around looking for a business opportunity with a couple of bucks they have saved. They’re thinking of ways how to pay the bills, how to go grocery shopping, how miserable they are in their full time job.
1. Company/products
What’s the company/products doing for you? How are the owners? Like for me, I talk about how our CEO’s are faith-based, we have scriptures on our products. So a person who values that will want to get in on it. Talk about your products in a way that someone who needs to fill in that gap will understand.
2. Community
Someone who may be feeling lonely will want to join you because that will fill in her gap. Talk about what gaps could fill in a person’s life.
3. Currency
Share about what the business, products, and your community are doing for you financially. How has it helped you and your family?
Remember: If you’re doing something that you don’t feel confident in, it’s never going to give you results.
Share your business in a way that feels good to you.
