I feel like this topic isn’t talked about enough in the Network Marketing space, but it’s definitely a game-changer when done right.
In this industry, there’s a mindset behind duplication. Everyone wants to show everyone else how easy it is to join their team. Showing them that this business is something you can duplicate. That they already have everything you need to be successful in this space. “Join me because I have everything you need and you just have to copy it.”
That whole mindset about recruiting really overshadowed branding. People often overlook it because they don’t think they need it, they can just copy-paste what their up-line did. They also don’t want to complicate things for their new members so they can get more people to join their team. Honestly, it’s doing so many people in this industry a disservice. Now, you’re just becoming a cut, copy, & paste version of someone else.
Are you really having success doing that, though? My guess is probably not! If you are, it’s not going to be sustainable. It will eventually be hard to keep marketing to them if you don’t have anything that makes you stand out. You need to have something that people will make you want to come to you instead of someone else.
Having a brand is going to allow you to increase your KCT factor with people – Know, Connect, and Trust. Some of you may know this as the KLT – know, like, trust but around here, we don’t really care about the like factor. We’re not worried about that. When you’re worried about someone liking you, you’re going to show up differently. You’re going to show up as a watered down version of yourself because you’re worried if they’ll like you or not.
It’s normal to want people to like you. No one really goes around and thinks “I don’t want people to not like me.” But in this industry, being liked by everyone is not the key to selling your product. It’s not going to help you grow a long-term, sustainable business. What’s going to help you? CONNECTION. Having people that feel connected to you. When someone simply likes you, it doesn’t mean they’re connected to you. There are people I follow that I like, I enjoy their posts, but I don’t feel connected to them. I like them enough but I just don’t feel like what they have to offer is something I find value in.
When people think about branding, they think of the colors, fonts, the look. But we don’t care about those. What we’re worried about is your personal brand. You need to have some clear brand pillars that will help you create content around a specific topic. This will help you reach people who want what you have. Reach the people who’ll feel more connected to you. AKA your niche. It’s a narrowed-in focus for what you want to be known for, what you want to be represented as.
When people come to your page, what do you want them to remember about you? If you don’t have a clear brand, it’s going to be hard for people to know what value you can give them. How are you going to benefit them? People want to be entertained, educated, or encouraged. If you’re not giving them any of that, they’re not coming back, not going to engage with you, not going to follow you. You’re probably missing out on a lot of people that are coming to your page and swiping right off of it because you’re not giving them anything of value. It’s not about you, but what you can do for them. What can you provide to other people that will make them coming back and connect with you?
If I go to your page and you look like a walking billboard for some brand, I’m not following you. Buuut if you’re the girl that’s giving me all the makeup hacks that will help me as a busy mama, I’m definitely clicking FOLLOW. TELL ME how I can do my makeup in 5 mins, girl. YESS, YES, YES! So do you see the difference between someone branding themselves with the company vs. the girl who teaches quick makeup hacks. THAT’S the difference between branding yourself. So now, they go to your page and they get educated on how they can do their makeup. At the end of your tutorials, you can then insert your product and be like “If you want this palette that I used, here’s the link!”
Lead with education, entertainment, and encouragement. On the back-end comes the product and company. Now, you can get more people interested to watch your tutorial vs. someone that’s only like “This makeup is amazing, it’s all-natural and organic.” Guess what, NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE FACTS OF YOUR PRODUCT.
So when you have a brand for yourself, that’s what’s going to establish that connection. You’re going to be sharing content that will make them feel seen. Don’t worry about making content that appeals to everyone, make content that your niche will connect with.
You want content that’s HOT and SPECIFIC. This will hit people hard and that’s what’s going to make them open their wallets for you.
